Job Summary
The research carried out at the Center of Excellence in Respiratory Pathogens (CERP; https://cerp-epi.com) aims to support decision-making related to respiratory pathogens. CERP is part of the International Center for Research in Infectiology (CIRI), the University Claude Bernard Lyon 1 and the Hospices Civils de Lyon.
CERP’s goals are:
- Create excellence in multidisciplinary research combining virology, epidemiology, data analysis, bioinformatics and modeling;
- Ensure a continuum from data collection to their use in policy decisions;
- Be a convener for the main international actors working on this theme.
CERP is recruiting a biostatistician based in Lyon to perform data analyses on research projects in epidemiology, in support of the various studies and in collaboration with experts from the team. These analyses will focus on databases on respiratory pathogens and infections, as well as on large health databases. This position will be key to develop CERP’s activities around data analysis to support different studies and projects. This is a unique opportunity for a biostatistician to join a young, motivated and experienced epidemiology research team in an international working environment to address major health challenges related to respiratory diseases.
CERP is recruiting a biostatistician based in Lyon to perform data analyses on epidemiology research projects, in support of the various studies and in collaboration with experts from the team. These analyses will focus on databases on respiratory pathogens and infections, as well as on large health databases.
This is a unique opportunity for a biostatistician to join a recent, motivated and experienced epidemiology research team in an international working environment to address the main health challenges related to respiratory diseases.
Essential tasks
- Analyze data using descriptive and inferential statistical methods
- Interpret the results of statistical analyses
- Depending on the projects, a preliminary data cleaning and data management step will be necessary
- Provide logistical and methodological support to team members
- Document the data processing steps, generate reports (possibly scientific publications) and data visualizations summarizing your analyses
- Communicate the results within the team and during scientific meetings with external partners or at conferences
Technical skills
- Competence with descriptive and inferential statistical methods (statistical tests, regressions, survival analyses, predictive models) for epidemiological modeling
- Competence with statistical analysis software: R (mandatory), Python and SAS (optional)
- Knowledge of the health data environment in France
- Knowledge of the Système national des données de santé (SNDS) is an asset
Training and professional experience
- Degree from an engineering school or a master’s degree Bac +5 with a specialization in data science or statistics
- At least 2 years of experience in data analysis

- Fluent written English
- Ability to work on several projects simultaneously and adapt to the constraints of multidisciplinary research projects
- Integrity, curiosity, proactivity, organization and ability to work autonomously
- Good judgment and anticipation, able to propose solutions
